Drought in Idaho

This 1-hour presentation discusses what drought is in Idaho and how it is determined. If drought conditions exist it explains what counties must do to have a drought declared. Obtaining a drought declaration will involve considerations for water supply, weather, and impacts on the community. Drought Declaration Tools will be shared and the processes for submitting a drought declaration application to the Idaho Department of Water Resources will be discussed. Information about preferred water uses for municipal, domestic, and stock will also be discussed. State and Federal drought tools will be highlighted including the USDA Streamflow Forecast Map, Snotel Mapping, and drought planning and preparedness tools for municipal and rural water utilities.

Presented by Laura Schroeder and Caitlin Skulan at the request of Idaho Rural Water Association.
