Laura Schroeder is an Oregon native, born and raised in the small agricultural town of Vale, Oregon. She began her private practice with her father, William F. Schroeder, in Vale. In 1991 she started her own firm to better serve the needs of her clients in water resource matters. Laura is admitted to practice law in State and Federal Courts in Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Washington.

Therese Ure Stix has been with Schroeder Law Offices on both a full time and part time basis since 1993. She’s held positions all the way from bookkeeper to Partner and Shareholder. Therese Ure Stix works out of the Reno office and serves as managing partner. Therese is admitted to practice in Oregon and Nevada.

Agricultural Land Use: Public Lands, permitting, easements, ditches & pipelines, rights-of-way, & grazing rights; NEPA comments & compliance; Clean Water Act permitting including wetlands issues & ESA compliance; contracts & leases.

Litigation: Representing clients before administrative, state and federal courts.

Domestic Water Law: Advising small water systems, cities, municipalities & water utilities on all issues related to water, stormwater & sewer/wastewater use, rates, regulation, permitting & easements.

Agricultural Water: Assist in development or expansion of production areas; easement, ditch & pipeline acquisition, modification & termination.

Groundwater: Groundwater declines continue to spark increased regulation.

Hydro-Power Development: Represent developers and operators in procuring and managing project water, establishing easements and other land use authorizations, and many other processes from inception through operation.

Water Right Review: For a small fee we request, collect & summarize state water right records for your property or entity, recommending further action where needed

Reno – Paralegal

Reno OfficeSchroeder Law Offices, a boutique western regional law firm, needs a paralegal for it’s Reno office. With offices in Reno and Portland the firm has satellite operations in Idaho and Washington State. The firm is uniquely qualified to address water rights as well as land use for both domestic and ag users. Clients are cities, counties, irrigation districts and individual farmers, ranchers, and domestic water users.

Reno Paralegal

Paralegals prepare legal documents and correspondence. He or she knows legal procedures for working with courts and other government agencies.  The paralegal understands relevant facts about the clients’ circumstances and may have paraprofessional duties on one or more areas of law under the direction of a partner. There are also routine clerical and administrative duties.

The ideal paralegal must have strong organizing and project managing skills. They apply these skills to case management and docketing. They set priorities and have exceptional time management skills.

There may be travel to client sites or to other Schroeder Law Offices locations.

The Reno Paralegal position requires

  1. Two or more years in the legal field
  2. Knowledge and skills consistent with experience
  3. A bachelor’s degree (although an associates degree may be acceptable in some circumstances)
  4. Skill in the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to master other software including TABS3 and Worldox
  5. Strong personal skills both in person or on the phone
  6. Related experience in water resources, irrigation, agriculture, or title work is a plus
  7. Ability to lift a bankers box of paper

Schroeder Law Welcomes New Legal Assistant

 

Schroeder Law Welcomes new Legal Assistant and is happy to announce the newest addition to its Reno team, Leslie Velazquez. As our newest Legal Assistant, Leslie will be working to assist our paralegals and attorneys on client matters, marketing, and other administrative duties. Leslie earned her Associates of Arts degree from Truckee Meadows Community College in May of 2016. Shortly after, she obtain her Bachelors of Liberal Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Reno in December of 2018, majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology.

Leslie was born and raised in Reno, Nevada where she saw the development of Nevada’s agriculture grow and extend over the years. She is eager to develop knowledge on Nevada’s Water Rights. She enjoys spending time family, hiking, and playing soccer year around. She is excited to join the Schroeder team working to assist our community with all their water needs.

 

 




Schroeder Law Offices Welcomes New Associate Attorney!

Schroeder Law Offices is pleased to announce that Caitlin Skulan has joined the firm as a new Associate Attorney in the Reno, Nevada office. Caitlin received her Juris Doctorate and Certificate in Natural Resource and Environmental Law from the Northwestern School of Law, at Lewis and Clark College in May of 2019.  Caitlin was admitted to the Nevada State Bar on October 16, 2019 and is looking forward to admission with the Federal District Court of Nevada on November 12, 2019. 

Caitlin gained experience in water law issues during her time with the Fresh Water Trust in Portland, Oregon. Her past experiences also include working with the Washington State Farm Bureau; the Western Resources Legal Center; the Ecology Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office; and Schwabe, Williamson, and Wyatt in Seattle, Washington.

Caitlin holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Natural Resource Science from Northland College, in Ashland, Wisconsin. Caitlin’s bachelor studies focused heavily in water sciences including hydrology, limnology, ichthyology, and wetland ecosystems.  

Caitlin grew up in Northern, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Superior and in a community dependent on agriculture and logging. Caitlin spent her childhood working on her family’s hobby farm and orchards local to her hometown.  As a result, Caitlin developed an enthusiasm and empathy for rural life and a love for the water that fuels it.  Caitlin is excited to join Schroeder Law Offices and start working to solve water issues and connect with clients in the Northern Nevada community.




Schroeder Law Offices Welcomes Lindsay Thane to the Team!

Lindsay Thane

Schroeder Law Offices is happy to announce the newest addition the team, Lindsay Thane!  Lindsay Thane has accepted the position as JD Paralegal in the Portland, OR office.  Lindsay comes to Schroeder Law Offices from Montana where she received her J.D. from the University Of Montana School Of Law with a certificate in Natural Resource & Environmental Law.  Prior to Law School, Lindsay earned her B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Oregon.  Lindsay has taken the Oregon State Bar exam and is currently awaiting the results with high hopes.

Lindsay brings a wide array of experience to Schroeder Law Offices including legal research, writing, and even judicial clinic experience.  Through her experience, Lindsay has spent valuable time in the natural resources field including positions with the U.S. Department of the Interior as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection agency.
